Harvest Youth Club

HYC is primarily an afterschool care facility for school-age kids located in the Harvest community. They currently serve 400 youth from Harvest, Monrovia, Toney, Madison Cross Roads and East Limestone County. They provide afterschool transportation from several elementary, middle and high schools within that service area to the Club, where youth participate in a variety of fun and educational activities in a safe, structured environment.

HYC also conducts a summer day camp, providing supervised field trips and other opportunities for fun and learning.

Melvin Allen serves as Executive Director, and he manages a dedicated, experienced staff intent on offering Christ-like examples, positive role models and programs. Their motto is “Developing Youth and Strengthening Families.” Their goal is to provide a sense of belonging and the tools for each youth to learn to make positive choices. Their hope is to help improve the factors that often lead to increased crime rates in groups of at-risk youth, including those who have little supervision or structure during afterschool hours. The staff is sensitive to the hurts and disappointments experienced by so many youth, so they work hard to be welcoming, encouraging and comforting in Christ’s Name. In addition to financial support, Asbury has joined forces with HYC by having youth and adult volunteers participating in afterschool tutoring programs. Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a ministry that delivers food, hope, fellowship and love to the elderly and shut-ins living within Madison City Limits.  Many faithful servants from Asbury are the hands and feet of Jesus to these in our community who can not get out regularly.  These faithful ones understand that Jesus told us to “go and make disciples of all nations.” Asbury Lay Leader:

Red Bird Mission

Red Bird Mission and Clinic has provided ministries in a region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921.  Today the need remains critical in this isolated, rural distressed area.  Chronic poverty, lack of jobs, poor housing, and rugged mountainous terrain provide obstacles to a fuller life for the residents of this area.  Red Bird Mission and Clinic strives to meet these needs through ministry in five areas:  Education, Health and Wellness, Community Outreach, Economic Opportunity, and Community Housing Improvement. Visit their website.

Royal Family Kids (RFK)

Asbury partners with RFK Inc. to provide a one-week, overnight camp held locally in the Madison area specifically designed to create positive memories for battered, broken and neglected children, many of whom are also foster children in Madison County, ages 7-12.  Carefully-trained, caring adults show these children genuine love through fun camp activities, listening, words of encouragement, and lots of hugs.  Asbury has partnered with RFK with the vision that through our volunteers demonstrating Jesus’ love, these young people will open their hearts to His eternal love, bringing them to true healing.  Wayne and Diane Tesch are co-founders of this international camp. United Methodist Children’s Home

Beginning as an orphanage in 1890, the United Methodist Children’s Home has expanded its services to keep pace with the changing needs of children and their families. Visit their website.

Upper Sand Mountain Mission

Upper Sand Mountain Parish is a cooperative ministry of ten small membership, rural United Methodist Churches serving near 1000 square miles of Southern Appalachian Alabama. The cooperative seeks to strengthen member congregations that they may better serve their members and to provide local and global opportunities for them and others to become involved in service and community development ministries. The Ministry Center Coordinator, Tayna Rains, is serving as the Interim Director.  Tayna is a lifelong part of Upper Sand Mountain Parish, and is excited to be on board to help the ministries continue to grow.  Also serving on the staff of USMP from the GBGM, we have a US-2 Missionary from Oregon, Bonnie Monk.

Last year, Upper Sand Mountain Parish celebrated 40 years of “Miracles on the Mountain.”  Asbury has a long-standing relationship with USMP, partnering with them to come alongside their local churches and congregations. We have been active in the annual Christmas toy drive helping to provide toy stores for area children who otherwise might not have any gifts on Christmas morning.  The children from Asbury have helped in packing seeds for the “Gardens of Plenty” program that provides seeds and fertilizer to 400 local families so that they may grow their own food to be more self-sufficient.  We also partner with their “Heart and Hand” housing project, a home ownership program for low-income families through Asbury’s “Madison to the Mountain” ministry. We look forward to new avenues to continue to build relationships at USMP, joining in their mission to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, both in word and action. Visit their website. Urban Ministry, Inc.

Asbury has strategically partnered with Urban Ministry, Inc., coming alongside their mission to “serve poor people in the Birmingham area with programs of compassion and wholeness.” We are committed to praying diligently for Tom Duley and his staff, and also to getting personally involved in some of the many projects that they lead: Community Kitchen, after-school tutoring, camps and enrichment for “at-risk” kids, prison ministry, and serving low-income elderly persons by refurbishing their homes’ exteriors. We whole-heartedly support and desire to represent the light and hope of Christ through this outstanding ministry. Click here to visit their website. Contact
