As we face growing concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we wanted to communicate the steps we are taking here at Asbury. First, we acknowledge that fear is something that can easily find its way into our hearts, and ask for everyone to join together in praying for peace in the chaos, as well as for the health of our congregation and community. Second, we remain committed to caring for our staff and serving our community in these uncertain times. We are working to stay up to date on reports and recommendations from the Alabama State Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. As we continue to monitor the status of the virus in Alabama, you will be able to find our church-wide updates here as they arise. We will continue to update this page as information changes.

Join us for Live Worship Online Only

Sundays at 9:15-10:45 | Now through March 29

Church Offices Currently Open

(Staff on Liberal Leave now through April 3)

Palm Sunday & Holy Week

ADDED March 26
Our commitment to abiding by health recommendations as we care for one another has necessitated for our online worship gatherings to be extended through Holy Week. Palm Sunday services are being pre-recorded to stream on April 5 at 9:15 & 10:45. We will simplify our plan for the weekly services and record one service that will be live streamed on Good Friday at 7pm. Despite the need for this unconventional approach, we look forward to worshiping with you during this significant season of the Christian year!

Easter Sunday & Communion

ADDED March 26
As we also anticipate having to worship from home on Easter Sunday, we have ordered 3000 individual communion packets that will be available for pickup at each campus. We’ll be outside the door with gloves on to give you as many as you need for each of your family members. One thing we’re thankful for if this happens is how easy it will be for us to invite those who may never have stepped through our doors to simply watch with us online for this potentially once-in-a-lifetime kind of Easter!

Madison Campus: Communion pickup from 10am-1pm on Monday 3/30 and Tuesday 3/31, and Monday 4/6 and Tuesday 4/7 at the overhang at the main entrance of Building 1.

Harvest Campus: Communion pickup from 2pm-5pm from the main entrance on Tuesday 3/31 and Sunday, 4/5.

General Conference

ADDED March 26
As the entire country readjusts plans for this year, the UMC General Conference that was originally schedule for May 2020 has officially been postponed. We will continue to update you once a new date is announced.

Serving Madison City Schools

ADDED March 17
As we continue to serve our community, Asbury is joining with other local churches to be part of a 3-week food distribution schedule for the 18% of Madison City School students who are on free/reduced lunches. To help keep kids fed, Asbury’s Madison Campus is now a drive-by site on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7pm to allow working parents to come by after work hours. Asbury’s Food Pantry volunteers as well as local teachers will pack and hand out bags. The Asbury Food pantry is currently open to continue accepting your non-perishable donations and the Church Office is open from 8am-4:30pm. In addition, our Harvest Campus is continuing to provide Lunches of Love for families in our Harvest community.

Asbury Weekday

ADDED March 15
Following the Madison City schools, Weekday is suspended for Coronavirus precautions starting March 16 and will tentatively start back April 6. Currently enrolled families will be updated to confirm when classes will resume.

Campus Worship Suspended

UPDATED March 16
We will not hold worship services at our Madison and Harvest Campuses now through Palm Sunday, April 5.

Moving to Online Worship

Our worship services have moved to online streaming only. This service will combine elements of both Contemporary and Traditional worship as we come together as one online. Members of our worship teams and pastoral team will continue to lead us at this time. Please make plans to worship with us each Sunday through the live stream!

Tune in Sunday mornings at 9:15 & 10:45 through:

After the live streams, our messages will continue to be uploaded in our archives at weareasbury.com/messages for later viewing.

Digital Giving

Please remember to take advantage of our digital giving options through weareasbury.com/give or through the We Are Asbury app that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Thank you for helping to make sure that our transition to online worship does not hinder our ability to fuel ongoing ministry.

Online Prayer Requests

As prayer is central to the Church and to Asbury – we want to be in prayer for you during these times when we can’t be together. Please let us know your prayer concerns by using our online prayer request form here.

Care & Staying Connected

UPDATED March 16

While many of you may be staying close to home across the coming days, we encourage you to connect with family and friends or those around you who are isolated at this time. Phone calls, texts, emails, FaceTime, or other technology are wonderful ways to stay in community with one another and to continue to care for each other. Our Care Ministry is continuing to reach out via phone to those in the Asbury Family who are in Hospitals and nursing homes as they remain closed to visitors. If you have a care need arise now or any time, please click here to fill out our form or call the church office at 256-837-0365. Our Local Missions efforts will also continue at this time as we continue to serve our community in this time of need. Please contact crissa.letson@weareasbury.com or slade.hogan@weareasbury.com if you are in need of our Food Pantry or other support. We also recommended calling United Way’s resource assistance line at 2-1-1 to connect with all of our area’s local resources.

Together, let us all remember these words of Christ, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  and the peace of God, which transcends, all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
