A Church-Wide Worship Season

through the Gospel of Luke

Advent 2022 - Easter 2023

What is the thing that you long for the most? Does it fill you with joy or uncertainty that it will come to be? A lot of us might expect that things should look different than they really are. We get disappointed and discouraged when people and circumstances don’t meet our expectations. But other times our expectations can lead to the greatest joy. The best kind of expectancy is when the good we’ve been longing for is actually fulfilled.

Reflections From Luke

The gospel of Luke paints a picture of expectation. It begins with a reflection on personal accounts from those God told to be on the lookout for what He was about to do. As we look through the window of our present with reflection on the past and expectant longing for greater things yet to come, we too can find reassurance where we are in the in between.

Luke opens after the empty sound of 400 years of unmet expectations, when God’s voice would faithfully reenter in the most personal way - through His son, the Savior of the world. This Savior would be the fulfillment of a multitude of expectant hearts across the centuries who had been longing and believing to hear from Him again.

Jesus Enters Our Story

As the heavens sang out, Jesus entered our story of humanity to show us He knows what it’s like to live in this broken world too. To deal with loss. Heartache. Frustration. Fear. Rejection. All the unmet expectations for His once perfect creation. But these didn’t take Him by surprise. As Luke reveals the details of His life here on earth, we’ll come to see that Jesus came to fulfill every one of our deepest places of need. And how He’ll far exceed our greatest expectations.

Our Confident Expectation

From Advent through Easter, we’ll journey through His story of awakening people to a life of hope, peace, love, and joy. And it’s a story that doesn’t end here. Because Jesus entered our world, showed us how to stay rooted in something greater than ourselves, surrended Himself to His Father’s will, and defied our path to destruction, we can live with confident expectation of encountering His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We can taste and see His goodness right here and now as we await the ultimate presence of joy before us.

Friends, the story is just beginning. You’re invited to experience the next chapter starting now.
