SERVE AT ASBURY
Live out your gifting with the Asbury Family!
We believe that each of us has been given specific gifts that makes each person a vital part of the church body. As we pursue Kingdom leadership together, we encourage our Asbury Family to find a place where you can put your unique skills to use in making a Kingdom impact. Before you check out all the serving opportunities at Asbury below, learn how discerning your gifts and calling is the first step of learning how to lead well no matter what area you support.
Kingdom Leadership Steps
Yes! To be honest, the word leadership can seem intimidating. But it’s actually a purpose we are all empowered to fulfill as disciples of Jesus. He tells us that we have all been given gifts to use to support and grow His kingdom on earth. Kingdom leadership is different than how the world defines leadership – kingdom leadership means serving where you can be most useful in supporting God’s plan to draw people to Himself.
No matter if we’re leading by serving meals, operating cameras or mixing sound, walking alongside kids or students, teaching a class, or preaching from the pulpit, each kind of role is a way we can live out our gifting by serving. Here at Asbury, while there are some specific roles you can fill by being responsible for a team or project, and may be called a leader within your ministry like with Students, Kids, or Life Groups, or Worship, we are all called to lead well in all we do.
The first step in discovering how you were created to lead is discerning what those gifts are and how He has uniquely wired each of us to share those gifts, both inside and outside the church. Sometimes gifts are meant to be used in a specific way in a specific season, and at other times, knowing your gifts can also shape the trajectory of your entire life.
Check out the steps below to begin to see what that looks like in your own life as part of the Asbury Family.
Everyone in God’s family has distinct spiritual gifts that are often categorized as administration, evangelism, exhortation, giving, mercy showing, prophecy, serving, shepherding, and teaching. If you aren’t sure about your spiritual gifts, you can take this free S.H.A.P.E. assessment to get started.
While you can simply start by answering the spiritual gifts portion of the assessment, you can complete the whole assessment to better understand your heart's passions, abilities, personality, and experiences to go even deeper.
Want to share your results with us to help you find a great place to serve? Just include the email spiritualgifts@weareasbury.com at the end of the assessment and we'll connect with you!
Once you have identified your spiritual gifts, you can gain clarity in discerning how God may be calling you to use those gifts to share His heart with those around you. Praying and asking God to show you how He wants to use you is a great place to start, and inviting others in your community to talk through what attributes they see in you can help too. Below are some questions to help you get started!
1. What gifts and passions do we think I have?
2. Of the serving opportunities available in our church, with our mission partners, or other outside opportunities, what do we think I could do or enjoy?
3. What do we think God may be calling me to in this next season?
