Dr. Tommy Gray

Lead Pastor

Becoming a pastor at the age of 18 and attending UAH, Tommy's own mentor and further education at Asbury Seminary helped fuel his heart and passion as a church planter and mentor. Tommy has planted ClearBranch UMC, served as a UMC district superintendent, and traveled around the world to train leaders. In 2012, he moved to Asbury and became Lead Pastor in 2018. Tommy is married to Carrie, has 2 children and 4 of the most adorable grandchildren (and yes he has the pictures to prove it!).

Carl Schoenholz

Executive Pastor

Carl moved from the north to Alabama during his high school years and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Psychology. Since graduating, he has been able to live out his dream and calling of being in ministry. He
serves the students of Asbury and the surrounding community as the Director of Student Ministry. Carl loves the word of God, ultimate Frisbee, board games, chaos, nachos, and the outrageous minds of teenagers. War Eagle.

Bill Munts

Pastor of Operations

Bill and his wife Paula live in and care for an older home in the historic district of Athens.  Bill and Paula enjoy time with each other, their two children, and three grandchildren. After serving on various committees at Asbury and following 21 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, Bill officially joined the Asbury staff team. Most comfortable behind the scenes, Bill works to ensure that the ministries are equipped with the tools they need to carry out their ministry.

Crissa Letson

Pastor of Spiritual Formation

Crissa joined the Asbury staff in December 2015. She currently serves at the Harvest and Madison campuses in a variety of roles. Crissa is passionate about encouraging and equipping others to live into their callings. She has been married to Greg since 1998 and they have a feisty rescue dog named Penny. Because it’s been their own story, Crissa and Greg have a deep passion to remind others of the healing and freedom possible through a life with Christ.

Jody Hooven

Pastor of Discipleship

Joining the staff at Asbury in September 2024, Jody feels back at home in North Alabama after serving  11 years in pastoral ministry at Christ Church Birmingham. Jody and Sheri, who have been married since 1991 have 3 children and 4 grands (the oldest two grandkids in Athens, AL and twin grandboys in Las Vegas, NV). Jody became a Christ follower in March of 1985 at 20 years of age, and immediately sensed a call into ministry. As an evangelist at heart and an extrovert, Jody loves meeting new people, catching up with old friends, and sharing the Good News of Jesus with others. A favorite scriptural promise of Jody’s that reminds him that we are never alone in any circumstance is, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” -  James 4:8a

Lori Frusterio

Executive Administrator

Lori has been on Asbury staff since 2006, when she joined the Weekday ministry as a music teacher. She currently serves as the Executive Administrator. This role intertwines with her support to the Lead and Lead Associate Pastors. She likes to spend her workdays improving processes and systems, which helps Asbury to function more proficiently.
Lori enjoys life in Madison with her husband, Brad, and son Noah. She enjoys playing piano, exercising, or learning new things!

Dr. Robin Scott

 Campus Pastor, Harvest

Robin is married to his sweetheart of 42 years, Luann. They have two children, Matt and Kim, and eight grandchildren. Robin is a lifetime Auburn fan although he graduated from Jacksonville State. He went to Candler School of Theology for his master’s degree and to Asbury Seminary for his doctorate. Robin loves to play golf, travel, read, and do yard work.

Hawah Brown

Co-Pastor, Harvest

Hawah grew up in Tallahassee, Florida and has been a Christ-follower for more than 20 years. She served her country and her fellow peers in the Army for four years. She has a husband of 10 years, Maurice, and four children. After being called to minister to kids in 2015, Hawah pursued and completed her bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministries. She looks forward to using her spiritual gifts and natural strengths to bring children to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Garrett Howell

Campus Pastor, Huntsville & Prayer Pastor

Garrett’s greatest passion is telling the story of the Gospel in a fresh way. His background is in itinerant speaking and in college campus ministry. He studied at Indiana Wesleyan University for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. At Asbury since 2020, as pastor of prayer, Garrett organizes and facilitates prayer meetings in homes, raises up leaders of prayer and teaches prayer through small groups and prayer classes.  His favorite responsibility is guiding teams of lay people in listening for God’s voice and direction for our church. Garrett’s parents, Donny and Elaine, were pastors for many years, and it is from them that he learned a love for God’s work.

Dr. Deborah Timmons

Associate Pastor of Care

Deborah was appointed as an Associate Pastor of Care at Asbury in 2016 and also works with Celebrate Recovery.  Deborah loves the Lord and has a deep passion for global missions and for winning souls and leading them to Jesus Christ. Deborah has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Management, Master of Divinity Degree, a Master’s in Psychology and a Certificate in Computer Programming. Deborah has authored two books and written three journals. Her hobbies include reading, writing and hiking.

Jean Carville

Jean and her husband Neil have lived and worked in three states but are proud to say they now reside in one of the “smartest cities in America.” Having three children, two son-in-laws, two wonderful granddaughters, and two dogs, the Carvilles have also found true community and more family at Asbury. With a BS degree in Journalism and Communications, and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Jean is excited to be working with Groups and Family Ministries.

Mary Williams
